Open Positions at Enso House
NOTE: From its inception, Enso House has been able to operate solely on a volunteer basis. Our staff has provided high quality, 24/7 holistic care for those at the end of life. As our physician-trained director of 20 years transitions into retirement, we would like to continue this volunteer model if at all possible. That said, we are happy to work creatively with the right individuals to ensure these positions are financially viable according to each candidate’s needs.
Caregivers
While having a healthcare background and previous end-of-life caregiving experience is preferred, we are open to training those who have:
- Strong desire to serve and care for people at the end of their lives and for their loved ones
- Willingness to share household tasks and meals as a family would
- Committed to spiritual life and practice, whatever form that may take for you
- Curious, open-minded and heart centered
- Generous of spirit and considerate of others’ needs
- Ability to work seamlessly within a team as well as on one’s own
- Willingness to go beyond one’s comfort zone and to learn new skills
- A highly flexible demeanor, responsive to whatever situations may arise
- Self-motivation, tending to whatever household needs arise
- An appreciation of both solitude and social interaction in high intensity circumstances
- Ability to listen deeply and to be respectful toward others
- A sense of humor
All applicants must pass a Washington State background check.
Director of Guest Care Services
Enso House, a unique hospice home set in a beautiful northwest island community, is seeking an experienced health care practitioner to direct hands-on care to terminally ill patients. Nurses or doctors of any specialty are welcome to apply. Experience in end-of-life care, while beneficial, is not a requirement.
Potential Enso House guests are usually first enrolled with the local WhidbeyHealth hospice service, and orders for their care are negotiated by the individual’s primary care physician and hospice team. The Director of Guest Care Services and other caregivers at Enso House then implement the orders and provide the direct patient care, as well as give input from the vantage point of their round-the-clock interaction with each patient.
